Object Description
Fine Antique Heriz Carpet
5.28 x 3.37 m
Early Century Heriz works represent some of the most desirable Persian carpets today, best known for the unique artistry of their designs – woven in Persia’s mountainous North-West, these pieces incorporate many of the bold, geometric motifs usually seen in Caucasian rugs, rather than the complex floral patterns common to more traditional Persian carpets, though with the same high-quality weaves, clarity of their drawing, and deep vegetable dyes, giving them the versatility to suit either a classic or contemporary space.
This example, dating to the first quarter of the 20th Century, features a generous large-scale drawing in relation to its format and a natural dyed colour composition including tan, grey, taupe, ivory and dusky pink; with age, the organic dyes used in the carpet have changed colour, lending sections of the piece a subtle variation in tone, particularly in the borders and central medallion, which adds a great sense of depth and charm to its design.
A very handsome antique piece, in very good condition for everyday use, which would complement a wide variety of interiors.
