Object Description
Fine Aubusson Carpet
2.90 x 2.27 m
The town of Aubusson has long since been famous for the high quality of its textiles, its reputation stretching back as far as the 14th Century, as a centre of Medieval tapestry weaving. In the 17th Century, its workshops were given ‘Royal Appointment’ status, commissioned to produce elaborate carpets for the French Court, well-known for their tight weaves and lustrous wool.
This piece is a late 20th Century recreation of these Aubusson pieces, hand-woven according to the same techniques, featuring a wonderfully crisp floral design, worked over an ivory and sky blue field, in an understated palette with deep aubergine accents.
A beautiful carpet, which would make a fine addition to any interior.
