Object Description
This very nice quality oblong engine turned snuff box was made in Birmingham in 1836 by Gervase Wheeler and measures 3 5/16 inches in length by 1.25 inches wide and is 0.75 inches deep, it has cast foliate border to both lid and base and a central round cartouche bearing the original initials BB in flowing script and is fully and clearly hallmarked and gilded to the interior, it also bears the inscription Sir Charles Forbes Bart to Braz Burretto 1837 – there is a typed piece of paper inside with a little history on it – a superb box in excellent condition with a provenance and weighing 2.35 ounces or 70 grams.
