Object Description

A very elegant early 20th Century ebonised and brass mounted three drawer French writing table / desk in the manner of Louis XVI with lobed corners and pull out leather slides of the finest quality, most probably Parisian made. French circa 1900. This fine quality antique writing table / desk, the French term being a bureau plat, has rectangular top having lobed (rounded) corners surrounded by reeded and moulded brass banding, enclosing a newly fitted gilt and blind tooled faded leather insert writing surface. There are also two pull out writing slides to either side extending the useable surface if needed. Within the frieze are three moulded drawers to the front having hand cut dovetails and central locks (stamped inside ‘Leclerco Paris’) being mirrored to the rear with false drawers to so stand freely within the room. With solid brass turned capitals headed with inset brass reeded bandings, the tapering fluted legs are raised on brass toupie feet. The sides having a conforming moulded panel to the front. This very elegant and stylish antique desk is in exceptional condition and has been fully restored ready to be the centre piece of any room or study. Note: it is rare to fine a desk of this type with lobed corners with such fine brass work.
