Object Description

A fine and attractive pair of French oval kingwood and amaranth tables en chiffonier / night stands with marble tops stamped P. Chorier.

Late 19th Century / early 20th Century circa 1900.

These extremely well made pair of side tables often used as lamp tables or bedside cabinets are constructed in the French transitional style.
Banded with amaranth, the oval well chosen cuts of figured Lamartine yellow marble tops surmounted by a three-quarter pierced gilt brass gallery, above three book match veneered boxwood strung and amaranth banded drawers with decorative brass bow escutcheons, all fully oak lined with working keys, on square cut cabriole legs and c-scroll sabots. Stamped to the underside P Chorier, who is thought to have been a retailer.

Very attractive being of oval form having obtained a very pleasing faded colour. These pair of side tables are of particularly good quality in the restrained French transitional form of the later half of the 18th Century.
