A fine quality French Late 18th Century Directoire Period mahogany commode having a white and grey veined “Breche Verte” marble top with brass mounts circa 1795.
The figured shaped breche verte marble top having moulded edge sits above three short drawers and two long drawers, each being oak lined with central brass “fleur-de-lys” locks. This commode also retains its original shaped key.
Each drawer having brass panelled mounts and rectangular handles flanked by fluted turned columns with brass fillets and the commodes sides also being panelled with brasswork.
Raised on tapering toupie feet with brass sabots this Directoire commode is in excellent condition having been carefully restored with a wonderful warm colour and patina.
A very good quality commode having excellent proportions, adorned with brass mounts, three separate top drawers against the single. The best Fleur-de-lys locks retaining their original key and a classic Breche Verte shaped marble top.
The choice of timber is superb along with the mellow colour it has achieved over the 200 plus years.
