A superb quality original patinated and gilt bronze French Empire twelve branch chandelier.
French Circa 1820.
In excellent original condition having a fine patina to the bronze and gilt work this wonderful 12 branch French Empire chandelier is of the finest quality incorporating Roman, Greek and Egyptian elements inspired by the Roman lamps founded on the grand tours of the late 18th Century / Early 19th C.
Please not the rare to see and well cast Egyptian style panther heads holding each chain within its mouth surrounding the well cast ceiling corona ornately decorated with palmettes.
The central circular handing reserve centred by a flaming tazza supporting 12 bearded men each with gilt candle nozzles, the underside decorated with acanthus leaf and central gilt pine cone.
Cleverly adapted for electricity there is a 12 bulb light fitting which has been placed inside of the chandelier below the central gilt bronze flame. This enables the light to radiate from inside whilst still leaving the candle holders free to decorative with candles.
It has been rewired and earthed by our electrician so ready to hang.
Fine quality chandelier and very stylish which will work in most settings.
