Object Description
This fine cased set of three crested George III silver caddies were made in London in 1765/6 by famous Huguenot silversmith Pierre Gallois, the central one dated 1765 measures 5.5 inches tall by 3.5 inches wide and is 3.25 inches deep, the smaller two (one dated 1765 and the other 1766) measure 5.5 inches tall by 3 5/8 inches wide by 2 5/8 inches deep, they are all beautifully decorated with embossing and engraving – the decoration is very sharp and they are all crested to the front, the lift off lids all have pineapple finials and are marked with the lion passant and the makers marked and they are all fully and clearly hallmarked under the bases. They are contained in a shagreen box that has a silver escutcheon and carrying handle, it also has a working key! Inside it is fitted and lined with red velvet and silver braid, a superb set in excellent condition.
