Object Description
Fine Veramin Carpet, c. 1900
4.12 x 3.07 m
A wonderful Veramin carpet dating c. 1900’s. This is an earlier example, predating widespread commercial production, and therefore features delicate, gracefully aged vegetable dyes, not found on later pieces, with shades of sky blue and muted terracotta. Antique Veramin carpets of this era are renowned for their superior craftsmanship, which lends a crisp clarity to their drawings. This carpet boasts a well-balanced, open design, framed by an unusually wide border.
Early Veramin carpets have some of the most interesting and unique designs in comparison to other regions of Persia. The charming pomegranate blossom design is derived from earlier Azerbaijan rugs of the 18th century and symbolizes prosperity, fertility and longevity.
This fine Veramin carpet is in very good to excellent condition, still retaining its outer borders on all four sides – a rare find, especially in this large format.
A stylish example that would suit either a classic or contemporary setting.
