Object Description
Fine Vintage Needlepoint Carpet of Arts & Crafts Design
3.50 x 2.68 metres
English needlepoint carpets have been produced since the 16th Century, but experienced a real renaissance during the 19th Century, incorporating a vast array of new colours and styles, in part due to the impact of the burgeoning Arts and Crafts movement, pioneered in Britain by figures like William Morris, himself well known for his needlepoint textiles.
This handsome vintage example, features a muted cornflower blue field, overlaid with dynamic grand scale scrolling vegetal motifs, in soft sage green, ivory and saffron tones – an understated palette, well suited to this piece’s balanced, open design.
A timeless and stylish carpet, to complement a wide variety of settings.
