Object Description
These beautiful gilt bronze (ormolu) wall sconces (lights) are designed in an elegant Rococo style after decorative arts of the Louis XV period (1715-1774). Characteristic of this style, they are composed of curved, asymmetrical organic forms.
Each sconce features a serpentine, stylised acanthus leaf back plate, which mounts the item onto the wall. From each back-plate, there springs five leafy, winding arms which terminate in petalled drip-pans and flower-shaped capitals. These cup-like forms serve as the candle-holders.
