Object Description
A tall, refined Modernist floor lamp, attributed to Jacques Adnet. The clean lines of four glass rods spread the light, while the central brass column and base warm the glow that emanates from two side lights sweeping beneath the mirrored chrome diffuser; directed upwards and controlled separately to allow for the creation of differing ambiences between shade and room. With strong functional lines, and the reduced, tubular ornamentation of its glass, but without abandoning the traditional beauty of brass, Adnet’s careful modern approach, pioneered in his revolutionary time at Compagnie des Arts Français, forged a truly new design aesthetic, founded on the brilliance of metal, glass, and electricity.
