Object Description
‘Flower maidens,’ a large oil-on-canvas painting by Émile Eisman-Semenowsky
French/Polish, Late 19th Century
Frame: height 72.5cm, width 111cm, depth 9cm
Canvas: height 54cm, width 92cm, depth 0.5cm
Set within an idealised, imagined Classical setting, this fine oil-on-canvas by Émile Eisman-Semenowsky depicts a pair of young women, maidens, in a small rowing boat, decked with flowers and garlands in front of large marble backdrop, with a fountain and idyllic landscape to the far left. Approached by a swan, the two maidens pause and linger in the foreground. Overflowing with romanticism and aspects of a floral and tranquil dreamscape, the painting is brought to life by the brushwork and masterful painterly qualities of the artist.
Oil on canvas in a carved giltwood frame, it is signed lower centre ‘Eisman-Semenowsky.’
