Object Description
The gilt bronze sconces in this set of four are designed in the beautiful Régence style—the manner of decorative art that most closely aligns with the early Rococo yet betrays the lingering influence of Louis XIV. Each sconce features a shaped and pierced backplate, which is finished with a variety of decorative forms including a grotesque mask, foliate motifs, and strapwork. Each backplate supports four scrolling arms, the arms terminating in foliate candle holders and drip pans. The bronze throughout is intricately cast and beautifully gilded.
