Object Description

An exceptional and well decorated pair Doulton Lambeth floral vases by renowned artist Frances E Lee and dated 1883. The stoneware bottle shaped vases stand raised on a narrow round foot with slightly recessed bases with pear shaped bodies and raised narrow necks. The vases are decorated with panels divided by raised beadwork borders with stylized single flower heads set between panels decorated with flowering stems hand painted in low relief in thickly applied glazes. The vases are hand painted in tones of blue, brown, orange and green and set against a finely stippled textured salt glazed ground. Both vases have impressed Doulton Lambeth marks along with incised FEL marks for Frances E Lee and with further marks for assistants Loisa Wakely, Emma Burrows, Clara Baker and Charlotte Lamb and both vases are dated 1883.
