French 18th century gold mounted walking stick

Dating back to 1789, this walking stick exemplifies the remarkable craftsmanship of 18th century French artisans.
The gold-mounted handle is beautifully engraved with a rosette design and encircled by a delicate loop band, showcasing the elegance of the period. The top of the handle is adorned with a simple circular motif, framed by repeating decorative patterns. It is stamped with Paris hallmarks from 1769 and carries the maker’s mark of Julien Alaterre.
The walking stick features a metal-lined eyelet near the upper section, providing a practical space for a wrist cord, making it easier to carry.
The wooden shaft gently tapers as it descends and ends with a metal ferrule.
