A very elegant and wonderfully drawn French 19th century Second Empire marquise loveseat / small sofa retaining the original paintwork.
French, circa 1870.
Extremely well drawn, having a very chic profile, the shaped softly upholstered back decorated with carved harebells supported by Egyptian Queens head arms terminating on hoof feet.
These are marquise chairs are rare to find, especially retaining the original paintwork and of such a wonderfully shape.
This upholstery is in perfect condition having been recently covered in a calico and hessian with a new feather cushioned seat, can be used as is or covered in a fabric of choice.
This French Hostess chair is named ‘marquise’ for the lady of the house to host in, the marquise chair presents larger dimensions than a regular bergère, making it a great choice to decorate any living room or bedroom.
