Object Description

French brass and champlevé enamel garniture. The case profusely decorated on a blue ground with turned finials standing on a stepped, raised plinth and resting on turned feet.

Gilded dial with Arabic numerals, finely decorated centre, original ‘blued’ steel hands signed ‘Legouet’, Paris. The case is supported to either side by two matching candelabra.

Eight day movement striking the hours and halves on a coiled gong marked for ‘Vincenti & Co, Paris. C.1890

Jean Vincenti started his clockmaking workshop just prior to 1823 in Montbeliard, France. Vincenti died in 1834, the business continued to thrive winning numerous awards including the ‘Medaille D’Argent ( silver medal) in Paris in 1855.

The company were known for fine quality movements. Vincenti was also especially noted for his highly decorative mantel clocks including those with inlaid Boullework.
