Object Description
A superb quality French early 19th century Empire period mahogany desk armchair (fauteuil de bureau en acajou d’epoque Empire) in the style of Jacob Desmalter.
Circa 1810.
Why we like it
Its super heavy quality mahogany has naturally mellowed over time to the most splendid and sought after golden colour that you will ever see on a French piece of furniture, much of which was re-finished. The thick and heavy quality of its chunky carved frame and a superbly patinated, quintessentially English look, make this super comfortable, generously masculine armchair a perfect addition for a gentleman’s study or library.
An iconic, timeless design in the style of Jacob, with deep horseshoe scrolled back, lions head terminals of the armrests.
No obvious restorations, seat reuphostered a while ago, sprung for extra comfort.
