French Empire Patinated Bronze and Ormolu Mantel Clock
Patinated bronze and ormolu mantel clock housed in an oval ribbed case with raised plinth with fine engine turned band and resting on decorated ormolu feet. The case surmounted by a finely figured ormolu maiden reading a book.
Gilded dial with gilded and chased bezel and engine turned centre, roman numerals and original ‘blued’ steel hands signed ‘Musson A Orleans’.
French eight day movement with outside countwheel and silk suspension, striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell. C.1810
Dictionnaire Des Horlogers Francais by Tardy lists Musson as working from Rue Royale, Orleans from 1800-1825.
