Object Description
French gilt bronze and Chinese cloisonné enamel jardinière
French and Chinese, early 20th Century
Height 63cm, width 58cm, depth 40cm
This piece is a superb example of East meets West: of Chinese cloisonné enamel paired with French gilt bronze. The jardinière features an enamel bowl, the blue-ground surface of which is adorned with traditional Chinese flowers and birds, all wrought from delicate gilt cloisonné wire. The bowl is raised on a gilt bronze four-leg base, each leg in the form of a Renaissance style dolphin. The lip of the vase is set with a pierced gilt bronze gallery and the body is mounted with twin gilt bronze handles, each featuring a putto and a bird. The gilt bronze is superb cast and finished with fine detailing.
