French gilt bronze and pink porcelain jewellery box by Tahan

This fine jewellery casket by the French maker Tahan is crafted from porcelain and gilt bronze. The casket features a gilt bronze frame tooled and moulded with foliate detailing, raised by scrolling feet and shaped aprons, and surmounted by a domed hinged cover opening to a velvet lined interior. The four sides and top of the casket are inset with porcelain plaques: rectangular plaques to the top and long sides, and circular ones to the short ends. The plaques feature pink ground painted in greyscale with imagery of reclining putti and flowers. The interior edge is signed ‘TAHAN R. DE LA PAIX’.
