French Japonisme style gilt bronze and enamel mantel clock
French, 19th Century
Height 30cm, width 18cm, depth 14.5cm
This fine mantel clock is of rectangular form, with a gilt bronze frame formed in an architectural manner. The four sides and the top face of the clock feature blue-ground enamel plaques adorned with cloisonné depictions in a Japanese manner of birds and butterflies among foliage and reeds. The front face, with a circular gilt dial, is set behind a glazed door. The dial is signed ‘Ve J. MAGNIN GUEDIN & Co’.
