Object Description

A 19th century Louis XV style gilt bronze mounted marquetry bureau plat, with a brass banded tooled serpentine brown leather top with molded edge above three frieze drawers, each finely inlaid with trellis parquetry, the back decorated conformingly with blind drawers, on cabriole legs with its corners depicting finely chiseled gilt bronze foliate mounts, terminating in gilt bronze scrolled sabots.

Object History

This delicately sinuous model appears to be based in shape, proportion and use of mounts on a bureau plat made by Joseph Baumhauer (made ébéniste privilégié du Roi around 1749)
