Object Description
French Neoclassical style malachite and gilt bronze mantel clock
French, late 19th Century
Height 42cm, width 22cm, depth 11cm
This fine clock is crafted in the Louis XVI Neoclassical style from malachite and gilt bronze—with the malachite veneer being a later re-finishing. The clock features a cylindrical malachite clock drum inset with a white enamel dial beneath domed glass. The drum is supported between two malachite pillars, each complete with a tiered capital and each adorned to the front face with a gilt bronze mount. The pillars are supported on a shaped malachite base, which is raised on gilt bronze feet. The top of the clock drum is surmounted by an ornate gilt bronze and malachite urn-form finial.
