This striking Orientalist watercolour depicts a desert scene during the late evening. As the sun sets, illuming the horizon a brilliant red, a group of travellers stop at a fountain for refreshment. The work is superbly painted, with brilliant colours and fluid brushstrokes employed by the artist.
The piece is by Émile Boivin, a leading watercolourist of Orientalist scenes during his day. It is signed lower left ‘Emile Boivin’ and is contained within a fine giltwood frame.
