Circa 1870. French Ormolu & Porcelain Clock Garniture
A 19th century Napoleon III French Sévres style ormolu and porcelain three-piece clock garniture, all resting on velvet and gilt wood plinths which in turn sit on ebonised plinths with glass domes. With an eight-day movement that strikes the half hour and hour on a bell, the works are stamped with the numbers 4996 and ‘A B’ with a star in-between for Louis-Achille Brocot.
Achille Brocot (1817-1875) is from the well-known Brocot family of clock makers in Paris.
The porcelain dial is marked ‘Paris’ and ‘Aird & Thomson’ probably the retailers.
The set is decorated with griffins and the centre panels of porcelain have scenes of Cupid with a lady.
