Object Description

Unusual late 18th / early 19th century George 3rd mahogany serpentine shaped kneehole dressing table in the manner of George Hepplewhite. The configuration is 3 drawers above a pair of cupboards with short tapered square legs. The drawers are all veneered cross grain with a boxwood line inlay and the original gilded brass oval handles. The cupboard doors are cross banded in mahogany with an ebony line inlay. Both cupboards have a fixed central shelf. The kneehole part has a concave shaped shelf with a boxwood veneered edge. The kneehole section is sufficiently large to allow easy and comfortable access to sit at the table. The timbers used all round are very well grained and the whole piece is a lovely colour with a waxed finish. There are some shrinkage cracks to the ends on both sides.
