Object Description
Circa 1725
A particularly small George I Period Walnut Card Table with castellated corners opening to show a suede playing surface with candle stands and counter wells, the cabriole legs opening using a concertina action and terminating in pad feet. The use of the concertina action to support the top when opened was an expensive refinement reserved for the best quality pieces. It cost considerably more both in materials and time to make but had the advantages of a leg at each corner when opened and a frieze in this case in figured walnut running around all four sides of the table.
