Object Description

A charming antique sterling silver bowl with an applied wire rim and raised on a spreading foot. Good size. Very plain styling and excellent original colour. To one side there is a hand engraved crest of a boar and thistle. Underneath the bowl there is a scratch weight and owners initials “MF”.
Weight 281 grams, 9 troy ounces.
Height 8 cm. Diameter 16.8 cm.

Joseph Clare, apprenticed to Nathaniel Locke 1702., free 1712. 1st mark entered as largeworker 1713. 2nd (sterling mark) 1720. 3rd mark 1721. Died 1728.

Object Condition

This handsome bowl is in good condition. The hand engraved crest is still sharp. Stamped with a clear set of full English silver hallmarks. There is one very mini bruise on the top edge, scarcely visible.
