Object Description

A Charming George II Period, 18th Century Giltwood & Gesso Wall Mirror, Of Rectangular Form, Having Central Set Carved Shell To Top Flanked By Foliate Carved Decoration, Over Original Mercury Mirror Plate Bordered By Egg And Dart Carved Moulding, Sanded Ground Border And Elegant Scrolling Carved Motifs To Bottom.

This extremely attractive 18th century georgian mirror is a slightly unusual combination of form in terms of its overall rectangular shape combined with the scrolling decoration to the bottom.

One thing is for sure however and that is there can be no doubting the exceptional quality and craftsmanship that has gone into the making of this mirror, with the design very much in the manner of William Kent.

Overall the condition is good and it boasts a mirror plate which is almost certainly the original, but of course we cannot guarantee this. There has been various touching up of the gilded decoration at various times in its history, but this has been extremely sympathetically carried out.

It is of course rare to find 18th century mirrors in such lovely condition and we believe this one boasts real elegance and style, whilst also being of an appropriate design to work in a wide variety of different spaces around a house.
