Object History

The form, decoration and details like the legs are typical of the later Chippendale Period particularly with the fluting and stop fluting. The Rosewood crossbanding and oval Inlays are hints towards the neoclassical work of the Adams brothers. The serpentine or butterfly shape of this example would have been more expensive for the cabinetmaker to produce.
