Related reeded pilasters and projecting corners of the top appear on a design for a straight fronted chest in the Gillow Estimate Sketch Books for 1789, supplied to Gillow’s London shop. Similar feet and other decorative features also appear on a library desk, formerly in the collection of HRH The Duke of Kent, illustrated in Geoffrey Beard and Judith Goodison, English Furniture, 1500-1840, Oxford, 1987, p. 276 and Ronald Phillips, Fine Antique English Furniture, 2013, p. 208. For a closely related chest attributed to Gillows, see also Christie’s, 4 September 2012, Lot 304.
