An unusual late George III mahogany Chest of Drawers, in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster and London.
English, c. 1790.
The rectangular top, with a reeded edge and rounded projecting corners, above the three figured well graduated cockbeaded drawers, with brass lion-mask ring handles; flanked by reeded corner columns, terminating in bold turned and reeded toupie feet. The bottom edge strung with ebony line. Back panelled.
Related reeded pilasters and projecting corners of the top appear on a design for a straight fronted chest in the Gillow Estimate Sketch Books for 1789, supplied to Gillow’s London shop.
