Object Description

An Extremely Attractive And Very Good Quality Late 18th Century, George III Period, Mahogany Torchere, or Candle Stand, Having Well Figured Octagonal Top With Elegant Wavy Gallery, Raised On Fine Turned Central Column Terminating With Downswelt Tripod Legs.

The actual definition of a torchere is a lamp on a tall stand made of wood or metal. However these days any kind of tall antique table, or stand, upon which a lamp or candlesticks may have been placed upon tends to be referred to as a torchere. Alternatively you will sometimes hear an item like this referred to as a candle stand, the reason for which doesn’t really need explaining obviously.

This is a very good quality example, dating to the late 18th or very early 19th century and very much English in construction, not made in the Netherlands like many that you will see.

A useful little item there is a wide variety of spaces around the home which this georgian occasional table would come in extremely useful, as well as looking incredibly elegant.

As with all of the items which we offer for sale this lovely little item has been attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, traditional antique furniture restorers where it has been inspected and recieved a good clean plus a natural wax polish.
