A unique George III Period complete Mahogany and Inlaid Bible Box, the hinged easel top with carrying handles and inlaid with a central large fan medallion, the initials “E.G.” and the date “1793”

The two volumes of Priestley’s Bible inscribed “Eliz Gibbs; Wood Street, Cheapside, his bible 1793”.

Object History

Made for and owned by Eliz Gibbs in 1793 and his name and address also appear at the end of volume II in the list of subscribers. The Priestley’s Bible was printed and subscribed to in chapters starting in 1791.
