Object Description
A fine George III Chippendale period kneehole chest of drawers or desk in mahogany with serpentine front.
English, circa 1760
Why we like it
The beautifully figured mahogany on this chest of drawers has mellowed to most wonderful honey colour. It has a pronounced serpentine outline, with curved sides – unmistakably a sign of great quality.
A related Thomas Chippendale’s design for a ‘Buroe Table’ is preserved at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
