Object Description
Circa 1880, good satinwood and inlaid George III style cabinet bookcase. The elegant classical cornice above 3 large glazed doors with the original glass. Between each door are slightly raised pilasters with simple capitals on the top and inlaid panels running up the facing. Inside are several adjustable shelves. There is a small flat section beneath this with a moulded edge, over a configuration of 3 drawers in the centre and cupboards left and right. The cupboards have panelled doors with a large classical inlaid urn in the centre. The drawers are inlaid with an urn and swags with various foliage, mistletoe and acorns, and cast brass open fretwork handles. Between the doors again there are pilasters which are similar to the top but of a smaller scale. The whole piece stands on an enclosed plinth. Very stylish, clean bookcase.
