Object Description
The attractively figured bookmatched veneered top is above two cockbeaded drawers, fitted with turned knob handles. False drawers conform to the other side.
The whole is supported on a stepped barrel column, which is raised on a four sided concave platform base, with reeded round feet, decorated with paterae and fitted with brass castors.
Goncalo Alves is a hardwood, which is sometimes referred to as Zebrawood or Tigerwood. The trees grow in neotropical forests, in particular Brazil, which is a major exporter of this wood.
