Object Description
George Jones Majolica wine cooler which features horned Bacchus head handles on either side with trailing grape vines, leaves and grapes. The lid has a knop in the form of three rams heads, embellished with grapes and vines. Colouration: turquoise, green, brown, are predominant. This piece represents Bacchus – the Roman equivalent of the Greek god Dionysus, god of fertility. Later known chiefly as the god of wine and pleasure.
