Object Description
George Jones Majolica tureen with cover which features a mackerel fish lying on a bed of fern leaves and reeds. Coloration: yellow, green, grey, are predominant. The piece bears maker’s marks for the George Jones pottery. Bears a pattern number, ‘2763’.
George Jones – In 1844, aged 14, commenced seven year apprenticeship with Minton & Co. Ltd. In 1851 travelling salesman for Wedgwood. Sons Frank Ralph and George Henry.
Awards/Accolades:
Medals in the Universal Exhibitions, (Paris 1867, London 1871, Vienna 1873) for naturalistic Majolica.
