Object Description
A very fine and decorative Aesthetic Movement Doulton Lambeth early stoneware bowl decorated with scrolling seaweed and rosette designs by renowned artist George Tinworth and dated 1879. The bowl of wide round shallow form stands on a narrow flat foot and has a flower style raised crimped rim. The body of the bowl is decorated with relief applied rossettes set with scrolling beaded designs against scrolling seaweed. Set within raised blockwork borders the pattern runs around the body of the bowl with stylized leaf designs incised around the lower edge with further beaded patterning and with similar patterning around the upper body. Decorated in tones of blue, brown, grey and white with impressed Doulton Lambeth marks to the base. The bowl has the customary incised artist GT monogram within the pattern to the side of the bowl and with assistant marks for Mary Ann Thomson and Eliza Bowen to the base. The bowl is also dated 1879.
