Object Description
Darning Sampler, circa 1797. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Colours green, pink and gold. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-22. No signature or date. A wonderful set of darning panels, finely embroidered. Crowns at the bottom with initials. Framed in an old, possibly original, mahogany frame with rippled, old glass. Mounting: The sampler is stitched to board. Frame backed with wooden board. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.
