Object Description
A Good Quality And Attractive Late 18th Century
Georgian Mahogany Circular Peat Bucket With
Original Brass Bound Decoration And
Original Brass Handle
(Originally made for collecting peat, or similar, these
buckets can be found from the mid 18th century onwards
in various shapes and sizes, with various levels of
decoration and quality,. This is a good solid example and
would make a great waste paper bin in a home office.
Unusually the bottom of the inside is raised a little higher
off the floor than would normally be expected, but this
is an original feature possibly put in place to ensure the user
did not overfill the bucket and therefore risk snapping the
handle under the sheer pressure of the overall weight)
