Object Description

A Very Good Quality Late 18th Century Mahogany, Semi-Elliptical Shaped, Card Table Having Well Figured Fold Over, Swivel Top, Enclosing Baized Interior Over Reverse Tapered, Faceted Central Column, Terminating On Four Elegant Splayed Legs With Original Brass Castors.

This card table is relatively unusual in terms of its design of its shape, with both D shaped card tables and demi lune shaped card tables much more commonly found from within the Georgian period.

It boasts excellent mahogany veneers, which are very well figured and retain a very good colour and patina. The boxwood strung decoration is also a nice feature, contrasting well against the rich mahogany.

From a practical perspective the swivel top is also a nice feature, preferable to many than the more commonly found gateleg design, as with the swivel top and central column there are obviously far less legs to get in the way of seats around the table.

It remains in good condition, with many original features and the relatively recently replaced green baize playing surface inside make it absolutely perfect for its original purpose. That said it also serves as an attractive, elegant side, or console table should one not require its original functionality.

Like all the items we offer for sale it has received a natural wax polish and general clean and tidy from our highly skilled and well trained antique furniture restorers in our workshops before being offered for sale, ensuring it is in retail condition and ready to be placed straight into the home.
