Object Description
A Good Quality George III Period Mahogany Oval Butlers
Tray Of Panelled Construction Having Folding Sides With
Original Brass Hinges Housed On Later Square Leg Stand
(Always a good answer to the age old problem of their
being no such thing as what we regard a coffee table
these days in the 18th and 19th centuries. They simply
didn’t make coffee tables at that height. As is the case
with most of these that you will see, this butlers tray has
been removed from it’s original folding waist height stand
and placed onto a stand of lower height to make it into
an extremely useful coffee table. The stand is well executed
and was probably made at the turn of the 19th/20th centuries.
The tray itself is in good condition and retains a nice colour
and patina. Certainly fit for purpose it would no doubt prove
both an elegant and functional addition to any room of the house)
