A Charming 18th Century George III Period Oak Dresser Base Of Good Rich Colour And Patina Having Well Figured Top Over Three Frieze Drawers Retaining Original Pierced Plate Handles And Attractive Inlaid Decoration To Shaped Frieze Raised On Elegant Cabriole Legs
This beautiful dresser base is practical, functional, elegant, full of character, and retains its original features. That is just a small selection of reasons to purchase this beautiful dresser base and we absolutely love it.
Retaining an excellent colour and patina, it has clearly been well used, but also well loved and looked after over the 200 years plus of its existence. Aside from the relatively standard and expected old marks, scuffs, scrapes, scratches, and dents there is just one piece of restoration, which is to the central section of the frieze which has clearly been sheered off at some point and then re attached. It is however the original piece of wood, so no harm done.
It is pretty rare to find a dresser base of this period which retains all of its original brassware, but this one does just that.
It is also a relatively unusual feature to have such well executed inlaid decoration on a country made piece of furniture, suggesting that the original maker was a far more skilled craftsman than many of his countryside based compatriots at the time. All the aforementioned is then of course accentuated by the delightful shaped frieze and elegant cabriole legs.
Perfect for a variety of places around home this dresser base would look beautiful along a wall in a narrow hallway, on the back of a large settee, in a kitchen/dining room, or even in a living room due to its relatively restrained form.
We are sure that there are a whole host of other settings that it would also work beautifully in.
