A Very Good Quality, Attractive And Useful, Matched Pair Of Late 18th Century Bowfronted Georgian Mahogany Night Tables, Or Lancashire Commodes, Having Hinged Shelf, Over Further Hinged Lid To Reveal Enclosed, Converted Compartment With Replacement Brass Plate Handles, Raised On Square Legs.
Described as Lancashire commodes, because Lancashire is the are of the UK where this particular design of night tables originates from, these are a matched pair, as the large majority of others available on the market today are. By matched we mean that although very similar in all design elements and although very similar in size there are some minor differences between the two. These differences of course would barely be of interest, or noticed unless they are placed directly next to each other and certainly not either side of a bed, settee or room.
The main differences are a slight variation in width and depth as detailed below and the design of a couple of the mouldings. The eagle eyed will also note that there is a slight difference in the size of the top lid on one compared to the other. Also one boasts slightly more figured timber than the other. Both have replacement handles which match.
They are both constructed from exceptional quality, rich mahogany timber and despite many years of use remain in good condition.
As with all items which we offer for sale these bedside tables have been atttended to in our workshops, by our highly skilled and well trained antique furniture restorers, where they have received a traditional natural wax polish before being offered for sale, ensuring they are ready to be placed immediately into the home.
