Object Description

A rare and large pair Georgian English treacle glazed stoneware cottage money boxes dating from the early 19th century. The large cottage money boxes are finely crafted with a step leading to the front door, with two windows and two triple chimney stacks set either end of a pitched tile roof. The pitched tiled roof with two dormer winders to the front elevation. With detailed brick styling to the walls the cottage has a money slot to the back edge of the roof ridge and both are decorated in a brown treacle glaze. The money boxes have unglazed bases and are typically not marked. These are a very rare find having survived in this wonderful original condition as they would have had to be broken to access the money.
