Object Description

German porcelain model of two dogs by Gerold Porzellan
German, Early 20th Century
Height 14cm, width 15cm, depth 6cm

This sweet porcelain figure was crafted by the Gerold Porzellan Company in the early 20th Century. The company was a fine porcelain maker and operated in Bavaria from 1904 until 1997.

The charming and playful model depicts two brown and white collared dogs, possibly hunting dogs, in porcelain running and jumping over an obstacle. The dogs feature refined coloured detailing in the form of brown speckles resembling the fur colouration as well as a thin black collar around their necks. The figures are set upon an oval porcelain base
with a geometrical feature extending upwards.

To the underside, the figures bear maker marks ‘Gerold & Co. Tettau / Bavaria / Germany’, which indicate that the piece was made for export into communist countries.

Of a delicate, yet lively design, this animal model would be a magnificent addition to the collection of anyone interested in canines.
