Object Description
A finely carved 19th century marble topped walnut centre table stamped Gillows.
English, Circa 1860.
The later rectangular Lamartine marble top sits above an acanthus carved frieze with central scrolling and shell-carved serpentine apron.
Raised on finely carved cabriole legs with grotesque masks to the knee terminating on a scaled ball and claw foot, stamped Gillows with their reference number to the underneath.
Very rare to find a table of this quality and especially by the renowned cabinet making firm Gillows. The carving is exquisite and flows so well as you would expect from such a distinguished cabinet making firm.
A mid 18th Century style with almost an Italian rococo feel this table would have been commission made for an extremely large estate for use either as a hall centre table or a console table against the wall.
